Emotions, Feelings, and Decisions

I have checked out the article “Emotions, Feelings, and Decisions – Understanding the Mystery”, which shared about the distinction between emotions and feelings – that “emotions are the physical reactions we have to certain stimuli”, whereas feelings “are the thoughts we have in our mind after those emotions occur, a reaction to the signals sent by the body.” I agree emotions and feelings are “crucially important to human functioning”, as I am coming to realise that these are natural part of being human, which serves the purpose of “constructing the self, making decisions, culture, and morality”, as the article put it.

Being in touch with our feelings does help us to make better decisions as we are listening to our heart and our body in order to know how to take care of our health, for example, and how to relate to others better through empathy or sympathy, as noted by the article. So instead of following the societal or religious ways of suppressing emotions, I am learning to acknowledge and practise awareness of my emotions and listen to my feelings, allowing them to have expression that can guide me in making better decisions in life, as well as enabling me to relate better to others who may be going through similar experiences as me.

Finding the secrets of the universe

“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” – Nikola Tesla

I agree that when we think in terms of energy, vibration and frequency, we can find the secrets of the universe. For example, the video “Mysteries of the heart” noted that human emotions are (like) electromagnetic waves (that can be felt from a distance), which I think can be described as vibrations. Everything in the universe is energy, and we can sense whether the energy coming from other people is positive (or affirming) or negative (or critical). Some people may term this as “psychic ability”, whereas those in the religious circles may say things like “I feel the holy spirit is telling me…”, but I believe we all have an intuition within us. Our innate intuition goes beyond the confines of religions and philosophies, because it is universal (or a universal principle), and each of us can follow our intuition of the heart for inner guidance by thinking in terms of energy, vibration and frequency.

From what I learnt about quantum physics, we live in a holographic universe, and what we see around us – the trees, buildings, computer, people – exist in our consciousness only as long as we are aware of them. Hence, when we choose our thoughts, we choose the kind of reality we live in. Our thoughts and emotions are energy, and we can sense the energy of other people’s thoughts and emotions, through verbal and non-verbal cues. We can also sense the energy of the natural phenomena such as weather. It is said that hurricanes may be caused by the collective energies of people’s thoughts and emotions.

Metaphorically speaking, storms can be stilled through knowing our true identity. Jesus calmed the storm in the sea because he knew who he was. “Be still and know I am.” All the manifestations of energy, frequency and vibrations that we see outside in the world come from within. Peace within produces peace without.

The secrets of the universe are within each of us. Peace comes by resting in the truth of our true divine self that is beloved, beautiful and blameless, and knowing we are one with Divine Love and we are one with one another.

Mysteries of the Heart

Video information

The Institute of HeartMath (http://www.heartmath.org) shares fascinating understandings of the human heart as explored in more than 20 years of its research. The ‘Did you know’ facts are lesser-known gems of information to enlighten curiosity on how your own thoughts and emotions are affecting yourself and others.

HeartMath Research Director Rollin McCraty, Ph.D., says, “It’s important to take a pause and really consider what our emotions are contributing to our environment and to other people. Our research and its applications can help people create a positive emotion-based environment that has real effects on physiology.”

McCraty said that the true nature of human emotion is one of care and love. He said HeartMath and other research shows that by focusing on these core heart-felt emotions, it can enhance one’s connection with others, and that this connection extends far beyond the individual.

It is interesting to see the heart as the seat of human emotions that can be felt from a distance as electromagnetic waves, which I think can be described as vibrations. It is also noteworthy that positive emotions can promote the brain’s ability to generate creative and innovative ideas. I think having a heart that is at peace and free from guilt and condemnation is the ideal state as the person would be able to function optimally, being able to follow one’s intuition, or as new age practitioners would say, to follow the bliss.
