Yes, when activists and humanitarians promote gay rights, women’s rights, elderly rights and handicapped rights, all they are advocating is human rights, or equal rights for all, regardless of their differences. I suppose some politicians somehow miss the forest for the trees and start focusing on these differences, and think that some groups’ rights are being promoted at the exclusion of other groups, for example. It probably has to do with their sectarian mindset. The basic message of human rights, however, goes beyond politics.
Maybe it takes a child to teach adults how to live harmoniously and treat one another with equal respect because a child is naturally colour-blind, gender neutral, and doesn’t care whether a person is gay or straight because such words are not even in a child’s vocabulary and a person’s sexual orientation isn’t anything to be worried about anyway. A child simply relates to other people as human beings, nothing more and nothing less. May we all recover our inner child that is innocent, pure, trusting and loving. May more and more people forget about “politics” and put aside their perceived differences and see one another as one human race.
